United Jewish Appeal Ad from 1947 Raising Funds for Displaced Jews in Europe

1947

caption:
The Miracle OF THE TOY SELLER,
TEN YEARS AGO this man was a thriving merchant in a small town in Eastern Europe. Since then he has starved...shivered... been shot at ...slept in cellars... lost his family... and has died a thousand deaths. That he is alive at all is a miracle. That he is alive in his new country, a free man, in a land they said could never be, is a miracle of miracles! Today he sells toys in the streets of a little town of Israel, alone, but clutching that most precious of all possessions... Freedom. If you have ever given any money to the
United Jewish Appeal you helped save this man. You helped perform this miracle. And miraculous as it was, the larger fight goes on. There is still much to do. Far to go. Hundreds of thousands of Jews, many of them living in constant fear, need help if they arc to reach sanctuary in Israel. Israel needs help in preparing for these new citizens—more farms, more homes, and more industries are needed at once. Israel needs help in building a fine, strong future. New cities must rise. New land must be reclaimed from the desert. Only through your gifts, your generosity
can the fight that is half won be finished. So GIVE! Give generously! Give all you can—and help finish the job.
